The Point-of-Need Innovations (PONI) Center strives to stay on the leading edge of new additive and advanced manufacturing technologies. Whether performing additive manufacturing must be done using fusion-based techniques or cutting-edge solid-state techniques, our lab can deliver a satisfactory part. Other manufacturing techniques such as precision machining operations can be performed by the equipment and technicians we have on site. Our machines can handle a number of different materials, ranging from polymers to aluminum alloys. See below for a comprehensive list of the equipment at our disposal.
Bond GL7
The Bond GL7 is a high-performance machine that can create near-net-shape parts with excellent mechanical properties. The machine can also be set up to perform other FSP operations, such as Friction Stir Welding. The GL7 is equipped with a 5-axis gantry system that provides high accuracy and repeatability, and it can accommodate a wide range of workpieces. The machine also features a powerful spindle motor and a robust motion control system that enable high deposition rates.
HAAS/MELTIOS Hybrid AM
The Haas Meltios machine is a hybrid metal additive manufacturing (AM) and subtractive CNC machine. It combines the speed and accuracy of CNC machining with the flexibility and creativity of AM. The Meltios machine uses a multi-laser head to deposit metal wire layer by layer, creating complex parts with high precision. The machine is also compatible with a wide range of metal powders, including stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium.
Gleeble 3800-GTC
The Gleeble is a thermomechanical simulator that is used to study the behavior of materials under extreme conditions. It can recreate the conditions of real-world processes, such as welding, forming, and machining. This allows researchers to study the microstructural changes that occur in materials during these processes and to develop new materials and processes.
MV1200-S Wire EDM
The MV1200-S Wire EDM machine is a high-precision machine that uses a thin wire to cut complex shapes in metal. It is ideal for producing parts with tight tolerances and intricate features. The MV1200-S is also a versatile machine that can be used for a variety of applications, including manufacturing prototypes, producing dies and molds, and repairing or modifying existing parts.
ProX® DMP 300
The ProX® DMP 300 is a cutting-edge Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) 3D printer designed for precision additive manufacturing. It utilizes advanced laser technology to fuse metal powders layer by layer, enabling the creation of complex and durable metal parts with exceptional accuracy and surface finish. This high-performance 3D printer offers a generous build volume, intuitive user interface, and robust construction, making it an ideal choice for industrial and commercial applications that demand reliable and efficient metal 3D printing capabilities.
