Charlye Baker

I’m a third-year PhD candidate in Materials Science and Engineering. I earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2024 and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2026, both from Baylor University. My research focuses on the process–structure–property relationships in additive friction stir deposition (AFSD) of high-strength aluminum alloys, with a focus on 7xxx series alloys. Specifically, I investigate microstructure and nanostructure evolution resulting from heat treatment and their influence on mechanical performance using advanced materials characterization techniques, including scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). I also contribute to projects involving in-space manufacturing, with an emphasis on sustainable manufacturing and in-situ resource utilization in extreme environments.
