Spencer O'Neill

I’m a second year Materials Science and Engineering PhD student working on the twin rod additive friction stir deposition (TR-AFSD) of Ti-6Al-4V (Ti64) and magnesium alloys. I focus on developing process parameters, evaluating mechanical performance, and microstructural characterization of TR-AFSD Ti64 and magnesium alloy depositions. I hope to signifcantly improve the current state of the technology, allowing commercial industries to take advatage of the nature of AFSD for near-net fabraction of parts that have comparable or even better proformance than their traditionally produced counterparts. I have extensive experience in iterative prototyping from my time at Brazos Innovation Partners and excel at tackling complex, unfamiliar challenges that require rapid learning and adaptation to nuanced technical issues. Outside of the lab, I like to read, play video games, cook, and hunt.
